Philip k Dick was a paranoid schizophrenic and he used to think the CIA and KGB were always plotting against him.
One time lost some papers and suspected that both american and soviet agents had broken into his house and robbed him.
then he thought that no, maybe in fact he robbed myself and then he grew skeptical about whether the papers even existed in the first place.
